"Every day I'm shufflin'..."

("Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO)

I'm sending out the warning right now that this will probably ramble and not make much sense and cover a bunch of random topics. Consider yourselves forewarned.

~Blog~
My lovely blog re-design is thisclose to being finished. PayPal actually pulled through and sent the correct amount of money to Miss Tricia. She sent me a sample yesterday and she's just making a few minor tweaks to the design. I think it will be up and at 'em in the next day or so, and I can't wait! Now, once it's up and purty, all I have to do is force myself to update it on a regular basis. I haven't really updated because I have been absolutely sucktastic on the diet front. Which segues nicely into...

~Diet~
I thought for sure that when I stepped on the scale today it would read 280 pounds or more. How sad is it that I was pleasantly surprised at 275.8? Seriously, girl, get your shit together. I almost weigh what I weighed when I was pregnant. And ten pounds of that weight was actual baby! Two-hundred seventy-six pounds.

It's flicking ridiculous. I never expected to weigh this much in my life. Even when I was at 250, I never thought I'd hit a weight as high as this. And here it is in all it's glory disgustingness. (It's a word. I made it one.)
The BFF, yours truly, and Tonja at Jimmy Buffett Tuesday night.
Do you see that freaking monster truck tire around my midsection?! Wanna know the worst part about that? I'm wearing Spanx. It's being sucked in. For serious.

I have more to say on the whole fatness issue, but I think that's better left for another blog post.

~Job~
I wish I didn't have one. I like my job on most days, but I am feeling lately like it's pointless. The Hubs is in between jobs right now and "gets" to stay at home with Bubbers all day. I can't help but feel like that should be me. Selfishly I want to be the one who doesn't have to get up at 6 am. I want to be the one who doesn't have to deal with office bureaucracies. I want to be the one who could wear sweats all day if I chose to. But most importantly, I want to be the one who gets to spend time with our son. I want to feed him and dress him and take him fun places, and teach him things all day, and watch him play. I want to get to see him for more than 2 waking hours every night. But it's just not in the cards, I guess.

My dream is that The Hubs will land his dream job, making enough money that I can quit mine and be a SAHM. People do it, somehow, they make it work, and they can't all be top executives at big companies making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. I want that to be me!

(Whine over, I promise.)

~Life~
As you can see from the picture above, The BFF, Tonja and I went to see Jimmy Buffett Tuesday night. We try to go every year, but I didn't go last year because I was pregnant and the weather had been pretty bad prior to the show. This year's concert was fun - I took the day after off work so that I could drink and not have to worry about the hour long drive from the concert venue back to my house. (Which is a good thing, because I probably wouldn't have gotten home until 1 am!)

Bubber Man sprouted a third tooth, on the top right side of his mouth. He looks like a jack-o-lantern now, which makes me giggle.

The rest of life is normal. Nothing major going on. I'm sorry for the long and rambling post, but that's what you get sometimes.

How about ending this post with a picture of Bubs to make it up to you?

Keepin' it classy.

8/79

Day 8: Disaster Strikes...

Calories: Somewhere in the neighborhood of 2100
Exercise: Lifting the margarita glass to my lips. I did at least 10-15 reps, aren't you proud?! (10-15 sips, not 10-15 drinks...I'm pretty sure I'd be dead).
Meds: Check. BS checks, check.
Mood: Annoyed with myself.

Saturday was Tonja's bridal shower. I had a light breakfast, ran a zillion errands, then decided to have a somewhat substantial lunch thinking that it would help me not be so hungry at dinner and therefore use less calories.

WRONG!

I had almost my entire day's worth of calories at dinner. Plus breakfast and lunch, plus one and a half cupcakes (the half one wasn't iced, at least), plus one and a half margaritas, plus there may have been a little chip/salsa combo going on.

Yeah, it was bad. I kept telling The BFF, "Yeah, this is totally not a $2 day." I almost feel like I should take back $2 for how bad it was, but that's not in the challenge. Not getting the tattoo is punishment enough.

8 down, 71 to go. At least I made it a week without screwing up...

"Won't you come and save me? Save me."

("Man in a Box" by Alice in Chains).

*Warning* Please expect randomness. It's Monday morning, the weekend was ridiculous, and I don't quite have all of my faculties. The end.

248.4

That right there is a 1.2 pound loss for last week, and I'll take it! I only ended up doing t5k's twice, and managed to eat out for lunch every day last week. I half expected to gain that much, so losing it was a pleasant surprise. These 40's are kicking my butt, but I can't exactly complain since it's my fault I haven't been working out as much as I was in the 50's. The whole weight loss thing is pretty simple, really. Eat better, move more. When you don't do those things, you're either stagnant or, worse, growing.

Eat better, move more. Eat better, move more. Eat better, move more. Rinse and repeat.

I only have 5 more days until my second 5k! I'm not sure if The BFF has signed up for it yet, but I've been hounding her to...I hope she does! Before my last 5k (how cool is it that I can start a sentence like that?!?!?) I did t5ks every night except for Friday, and it seemed to work out okay. I think I'll stick with that plan, and we'll see how it goes.

I'm picking up my race packet on Friday and driving the course. Randomly, the residential section goes down the street of one of my friends at work, so she said she's going to make me a little poster to cheer me on. (She said there's NO WAY she's going to be up at 8:30 to do it in person, and with 6 kids, I don't really blame her).

My goals for this 5k are simple: (1) finish faster than my last time of 47:37, (2) get to the 2nd mile marker in under 29 minutes, and (3) keep up a running schedule.

Last time, my 2-mile time was 30:07. My average time for the course was 15:22/mile. My goal is to stay in the 14's for the whole thing. If I finished each mile in 14:59, my final time would be 46:27, shaving a little over a minute off my time. 14:30 would have me finishing in 44:57 - 2.5 minutes less! I know that while I'm here, comfortably sitting on my ass at work, shaving 30 seconds off my time per mile seems super easy...Saturday, it's going to be a completely different story.

As for keeping a running schedule, right now the plan is to run 2.5 minutes, walk 2.5 minutes for as long as I can. When that gets hard, I will run 2 minutes, walk 3. When that gets hard, because I'm sure it will, I want to make sure I'm running at least 1.5 minutes of every 5. I know that I slacked with the running in the 3rd mile last time, so hopefully even if I'm running less in the beginning this time, it will average out to a faster time in the end.

I can't believe I'm less than a week away from running my second 5k. I won't lie...I'm pretty proud.

Goals for this week include:

1. Taking all meds. I did pretty awesome last week! Rock on.
2. T5k M, T, W, Th at at least a 0.5% incline.
3. Watch calories.
4. Get to 246 at next weigh-in.
5. Rock out at my second 5k.

Easy enough, right? Right.

On to other things: my weekend.

Friday:
Went with MFN and The BFF to Cheeseburger in Paradise. Horrible service, as we have found places with 'ambiance' to be consistant in that area - *ahem* Cadillac Ranch *ahem*. They're also horrible with nutrition information. They don't post any on their website, and don't make it available to you if you inquire. Yeah, there was pretty much no hope. On the plus side, afterwards we went to MFN's house and worked off a gazillion calories playing Rock Band. Well, at least I'm going to pretend I worked off a gazillion calories, as I had to sing the whole time. Hey, there was clapping involved.

Saturday:
The Hubs and I had Mongolian Grill (yes, again) for lunch. I snuck some carrots, broccoli, and sprouts in there, thankyouverymuch. Then we saw a Transformers 2 matinee. The Hubs and I both really enjoyed it, no matter what the critics may say. I'm sure we'll be buying it when it comes out on DVD. Mrs. B. Movie Grade: A-.

Sunday:
I'll spare you the long, dramatic details, but my 11 year old niece is in a Christian Children's Home about 3.5 hours north of where I live. Crammed in a backseat with my two "little" brothers, I rode up to see her with my Step-dad and Mom. The trip up was not fun, and then when we finally got there to visit, we were told that she had been taken with the rest of the kids to a baseball game about an hour away. If we wanted to, they would have brought all the kids back early from their trip, but of course we said no. My mom was really heartbroken because she hasn't spoken to her or seen her in about a month, and we were really looking forward to it. So now, we have to take another long trip up there sometime soon, in the hopes that we'll get to see her. Ugh.

And that brings us back to the present. Another day at work, another day on a diet, another day of life.

Which is totally better than the alternative.

"And now it's time for another Good Idea, Bad Idea..."

(Please tell me somebody who reads this knows where that came from!)

Good Idea: Going to see Avenue Q.
Bad Idea: Going to see Avenue Q with a nineteen-year-old and her mother.

Good Idea: Going more than five years without a speeding ticket.
Bad Idea: Going more than five years without a speeding ticket and then getting TWO in less than two weeks.

Good Idea: Having a co-worker notice that you've lost weight, and comment that it looks like you've lost more than what you have.
Bad Idea: Drowning your speeding ticket sorrows in whatever comes across your path and undoing a 10 pound weight loss. (I haven't done this...yet.)

"..these are a few of my favorite things..."

("My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music).

Tonight, I'm going to see Avenue Q. I'm going with The BFF, her mom, and her "little" sister to celebrate said sister's 19th birthday. (You probably don't read this, but "Happy Birthday, Puddy!")

I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am to go to the theater...I'm a huge music/musicals buff, and I have been lucky enough to see several in my lifetime. I was in choir from 6th grade through high school, and was in my high school show choir. (If you don't know what that is, it's a mixed choir that performs a 20-minute program of songs and dance. It's very athletic. And challenging. And uber fun.) And, a bonus to that was that they took us to the theater when ever they could.

I'm also lucky enough to have a BFF who loves musicals just as much as I do. Probably half the shows I've seen, have been with her. Thanks, Sammy Sue!

You know how people make those 101 in 1001 lists? I'm pretty sure I'm not patient enough to come up with 101 things I want to accomplish, but I can (and will) rattle off a long list of musicals I am determined to see before I die.

First, what I have been fortunate enough to see:
  • Avenue Q (as of tonight)
  • Chicago (a long time ago, before the movie, and when BeBe Neuwirth played Velma Kelly. Awesome!)
  • Grease (a college performance)
  • Jesus Christ Superstar (I took my mommy on a girl date. Sebastian Bach was a very screamy Christ.)
  • Les Miserables (amazing!)
  • The Lion King (I took The Hubs to see his first musical. He liked it, but I didn't realize that he had never even seen the Disney version of The Lion King...who hasn't seen that?!?!)
  • Miss Saigon
  • The Most Happy Fella (another college performance)
  • My Fair Lady (with The BFF and Puddy)
  • Oklahoma (one of my favorites!)
  • Show Boat
  • South Pacific (with Robert Goulet...oooh! LOL)
  • Ragtime

Now, the shows that I should have seen, but somehow got thwarted. It is because of these experiences that I now refuse to buy tickets to a show more than a month in advance:

  • Phantom of the Opera - I had 9th row, center tickets, and it just so happened to coincide with the year's biggest snowstorm. It took me over 3 hours to get home that night, and they did not cancel the show.
  • Wicked - The BFF and I had tickets, and then I ended up having to have my gallbladder removed two days before the show.

And, the wish list:

  • Fiddler on the Roof* - I have never seen it, or the movie, and I'm absolutely dying to!
  • 42nd Street*
  • Aida
  • Annie
  • Annie Get Your Gun
  • Anything Goes
  • Beauty and the Beast*
  • Cabaret
  • Camelot
  • Carousel
  • A Chorus Line
  • Grey Gardens - sidenote: I have got to find a way to see the Drew Barrymore version that's coming out on HBO!
  • Guys and Dolls*
  • Hello, Dolly!
  • How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying
  • Into The Woods
  • The King and I
  • Kiss Me, Kate
  • Legally Blonde*
  • Mama Mia*
  • Mary Poppins
  • Les Miserables (again)
  • Movin' Out
  • The Music Man*
  • Oklahoma (again)
  • Phantom of the Opera* (Damn you, Mother Nature!)
  • Rent
  • Seussical the Musical
  • Spamalot*
  • Sweeney Todd
  • West Side Story*
  • Wicked* (Damn you, gallbladder!)
  • Xanadu

(*shows I have promised myself I will buy tickets to next time they are available)

Anyway, tonight is sure to be a difficult night with the eating/exercising. We're eating at Cadillac Ranch downtown, and they don't have a full menu OR nutritional information on their website. So freaking annoying!!! And, of course, the show starts at 8pm, so who knows what time I'm getting home. There will definitely not be any 5k's tonight, but that's perfectly fine with me. I get to go hang out with some raunchy puppets instead!

"Come Monday, it'll be all right..."

("Come Monday" by Jimmy Buffett - I finally had no choice but to repeat an artist!)

Quick little ditty today, kiddos. I have to leave in about 1/2 an hour to go pick up The BFF for a girls' day of window shopping at the Outlets! Woot! About the only thing I'm going to buy is lunch, but still, it's better than being at work on a rainy Monday.

The big news? I finally hit -10 pounds this weekend! I'm super stoked! And I told The Hubs that if I lose another 10 by May 23rd (a family wedding) I'm going to buy myself a new dress. (perhapse this little beauty from Torrid. I tried it on this weekend and it's beautiful! I would wear a wrap or something, of course!)

But, anyway...I hit my -10! And to celebrate, we went to Rockbottom, which I blogged about before on my Valentines day post. I didn't eat all day, in preparation for their Chicken Fried Chicken. It was so, totally, worth it.

After we ate, we walked around downtown a little bit, and decided to grab some seats on Fountain Square. The Hubs' powers of observation were much more potent than mine, for once, and he drew my attention to the 3 film cameras that were mere feet away from us, and pointing in all directions. Then we saw a ton of people with walkie talkies, shooing people away from one certain set of chairs, and making people sign release forms and such.

The Hubs said, "Maybe they're filming Taking The Stage", and sure enough, about five minutes later, Mia and Aaron walk over and sit at the tables that were reserved for them.

It was pretty neat to watch, even though we couldn't hear anything they were saying, and I'm pretty sure neither of us were on camera. I'll watch to see, anyway. (Besides, I love any show that showcases my city...)

Okay, so that was Saturday. Sunday I went to a bridal shower for my soon-to-be step-cousin-in-law. It was pretty fun, but standard bridal shower stuff. I made her "bow-quet" since she made mine at my family bridal shower last year. It turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself.

And today, it's a lovely, rainy vacation day from work. I don't really care about the rain. I'm just glad to have a day off.

And I plan to take full advantage of it!

"Oh, simple thing, where have you gone? I'm getting old and I need something to rely on..."

(Keane, "Somewhere Only We Know").

Okay, so two-part post here, folks. Let's start with the weekend.

The BFF and Tonja and I had a girls' night planned, which worked out swimmingly with the fact that The Hubs was going up to his parents' house for the weekend to work on my much-anticipated, top-secret Valentine's Day gift, and I didn't want to go up there and spend the weekend simultaneously attempting to avoid The Hubs and The Mother-in-Law (The MIL, from now on). Not that I don't love her to pieces, and not that she's not an incredibly sweet, funny person, but she's just her. And sometimes that's a little too much for me.

Any-hoo. We had a girls' night planned for Saturday, that's the moral of the run-on sentence above. We went to a Pure Romance Warehouse Sale, because we're hip like that. If you're not from my neck of the woods, and don't know what Pure Romance is, basically, it's Avon or Pampered Chef, or PartyLite for, ahem, adult novelties. You can throw a Pure Romance party with all your girlfriends, or couples, and have a representative come to your house with all her goodies and she will tell you all about them, even demonstrate some products, etc. Basically, she wants you to buy them because she makes a commission. Anyway, every year before Valentine's Day, Pure Romance has a Warehouse Sale where they open their warehouse to the public and sell you all their stuff at supposedly discounted prices.

Let's just say I was less than impressed. First of all, it's a big honkin' warehouse, but there's only one little teeny tiny section of Rubbermaid bins on shelves for you to shop from. Secondly, it was packed in there, and there wasn't any sort of rhyme or reason to the flow of traffic. (See, there's that elusive OCD kicking in for your reading enjoyment...) Thirdly (is that a word?) I didn't really need anything there, so I was over it in about 5 minutes. The BFF and Tonja shopped around a bit, but I think the overall concensus was that it was disappointing. Oh well, I didn't need to spend any money anyway, and I'm sure Pure Romance will still be a thriving business without me.

Sidenote: for living in such a "conservative" mid-western city, there sure were lots of people at that warehouse sale...and the Hustler Hollywood in town is always booming. (Of course, for me to know that, I would have to have been there, and I never, ever would entertain the thought of entering such an establishment of ill repute. Uh huh. Never. ) But anyway, my point is, that people always say my city is soooo behind the times, and soooo conservative. And yes, I do live only one exit away from what is quite possibly the largest Jesus-coming-out-of-a-body-of-water-with-a-cross statue ever.

(Yeah, I'll bet you don't drive past one of these babies on your way too and from work every day) But my city really isn't that backwards. We have a very long way to go, but we do have a Pride Parade, and gay bars, and Pure Romance hasn't been outlawed...yet.

And, wow, did this post go somewhere I wasn't thinking it would go. Let's get back on track, shall we? We shopped, and then we went on to Girls' Night Phase Two...eating! What girls' night is complete without dinner, I ask you? So we had Red Robin (again, for those of you who are keeping track, that's my second trip to Red Robin in 8 days...and it's not even one of my favorite restaurants!) We had a yummy dinner, and Tonja had coctails (I just can't justify spending almost $8 on a drink!!!), and we had lots and lots of soul-cleansing, giggle-enducing, we-don't-do-this-often-enough, girl talk. My poor Hubs, Tonja's poor fiance, The BFF's poor BF. LOL. Good times, good times.

Then it was off to the movies! I love going to the movies...especially with the girls, since The Hubs absolutely refuses to go see a chick flick with me. Usually I have to bribe him, or make him feel guilty - I specifically remember having to do a trade-off to get him to see Enchanted with me, although for the life of me, I can't remember what it was that I had to do. Maybe I blocked it out. LOL. Anyway, the girls and I saw this:

And it. was. good.

The BFF and I have lived off of that book ever since Greg Behrendt (aka "Our Guru") wrote it, and it showed up on Sex and the City. Seriously. If you haven't read the book, and you're in a relationship that makes you sad more often than it makes you happy, leave, do not pass "Go", do not collect $200. Just go out and buy that book. I'm telling you, it all makes so much sense after that.

Anyway, the movie was good. Not amazing, not horrible. It was good. What made my day, however, was the end. I won't give it away, in case you plan to see it (which I recommend, btw), but in the last scene before the credits, they played my song. Which, coincidentally (not really) is the song that I quoted in the title of this post.

There was a while in my life where I was in one of the worst relationships imaginable that didn't involve actual physical abuse. Emotional abuse? Check! Cheating? Check! An immeasureable amount of lies? Check, check, check! And it went on for almost five years.

Well, technically, the first year was pretty good, but from there, it was just a slow, torturous, excruciating downward spiral of being so deep in this relationship that neither of us wanted to let it go, yet subconsciously and consciously doing anything we could to get out of it, and then getting back together and thinking we could make it work. Oh. My. God. was I so much work for The BFF during those years!

At any rate, just about the time when I pretty much knew I had to get out of this relationship, and everything that I was reading in Greg's book was pretty much corroborating that fact, and our relationship was just going through this agonizingly slow decaying process, Keane came along. British boys, yum. British boys in a band, even yummier. I fell in love with their aptly titled first album, Hopes and Fears. They spoke to me, and somehow even in the midst of one of the most torrential times in my life, hearing the music from that first album always takes me to a happy place. I don't even think happy is the right way to describe it...maybe calm, or content is a better way to put it. But it makes me happy. Always has, always will.

Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when, you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
And if you have a minute why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go, somewhere only we know
Somewhere only we know.

So when the movie made from the book that changed my life ended with a song that was simultaneously changing my life, too - well, lets just say it was absolutely perfect. And I consider it as my own little present from Greg Behrendt. Yes, I'm dilusional like that. :)

We shopped. We ate. We chick-flicked. (that sounds dirty, doesn't it?) We saw a chick flick. It was the perfect girls' night out. And then the whole feminist, 'we don't need boys', 'chicks before dicks' thing flew right out the window as The BFF went home to wait on The BF to get off work, Tonja went home to her fiance, and I went home to an empty house wishing I could be where The Hubs was, even if it meant I had to hide from The MIL.

And so, continuing this exceedingly long post: The Diet.

Lucky for you, there is very little to report in this category. I've been sort of, kind of, maybe watching what I eat, with little regard for calories, and I haven't worked out. I did, however, manage not to gain any weight, and even managed to lose a little... a whole .2 pounds. I weighed in at exactly 255 this morning. I'll take it. TBL at work starts next Monday with a weigh-in and a health screening, so I'm planning on kicking it into gear then, but trying not to sabotage myself until we get there.

And finally, th-th-th-th-that's all, folks!

Have a good week!

"...Saturday I said I'm Sorry, Sunday came and trashed it out again..."

(Billy Joel, "You May Be Right")

258.6.

Oy.

So that's +0.8 lbs, if you're keeping track.

Last week? Awesome. Friday night? Awesome. (We went out to eat at Lone Star and I did so good! I had about 1300 calories to use, and I got the 6 oz. sirloin, when I would usually get a much larger cut of meat. I had a salad, with ranch on the side, and barely used any of it - which is a feat for the girl who doesn't like salad! And I used very little butter on my potato, and didn't eat the whole thing. I was uber proud. We came home and I burned off some calories helping the hubs lug in and put together this monstrous cabinet that we bought.

Saturday was Girls' Day with the BFF and Tonja, so I knew that would be a challenge. We had O'Charley's, where I (amazingly!) limited myself to only one of those deliciously evil rolls. I did okay there. Then we went and burned off some calories with a little shopping therapy, and saw Bride Wars. The movie was pretty good. Not the most awesome movie in all the land, *cough* The Curious Case of Benjamin Button *cough*, but it was a satisfying chick flick.

Sunday, bloody Sunday. Uugh. I so want to lie and tell you I was good on Sunday. I made Chicken Casserole, which we ate at like 2pm, so of course, we were hungry again right before bedtime. Oh, but that's not the worst part. Nooooooooo...I, this girl who has finally turned over a new leaf, the girl who has sworn that she's going to do it differently this time, the girl whom you've all come to know and love...made a cake.

Phew...now it's out there. Somewhere on Sunday this craving began creeping up inside me and I caved. Part of the problem (I know, excuses, excuses...) is that we have all this awesome stuff from the wedding that we haven't used much - a new Kitchen Aid mixer, new cake pans, a new cake plate, etc. So, one, I want the cake, and two, it's fun to use all the new stuff. Double Whammy, still a fatty. Bah.

The good news?

"It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me, and I'm feeling good." (Oh, Michael Buble, you're added to my celebrity boyfriend list, too.) It's Monday, and I'm back at work, where I do really well with this whole diet thingamabob. My treadmill is no longer a shelving unit - how embarrassing is it that when we finally freed it and I got on for the first time yesterday, I didn't remember how it worked. Uugh. lol. And I'm ready to go. Even with my slip-ups this weekend, I'm still under 260, and I'm still in a good mood about this whole thing, dammit! Now we're going to kick it up a notch, stick with the calorie goals, add in some exercise, and get this thing going.

Have a great week guys!
